Murillo impressing in Premier League debut

A nice piece of skills from summer signing Murillo who appears entirely comfortable as he ventures forward from defence in his first Premier League start despite his lack of experience.

We’re back underway!

The hosts get us back underway for the second-half.

Forest failed to capitalise on their early dominance and it was a rather dreary affair for much of the first 45 minutes, but here’s hoping Brentford’s late chance is glimpse of the kind of action we can expect going forward.

For the time being it’s still 0-0 at the City Ground in this afternoon’s only Premier League fixture.

Hudson-Odoi wins a free-kick

Hudson-Odoi is brought down by Ajer giving Forest the opporunity to create a chance from a set-piece.

The former England international whips towards Awoniyi but the striker is unable to connect with the cross and Brentford will be relieved to see the ball go out for a goal kick.

Two minutes of stoppage time added on in what has been a largely uneventful first half barring Awoniyi’s disallowed goal.

Hickey denies Elanga

Despite his early booking Hickey has proven to be the equal of Elanga on the right flank, with the Scottish defender producing a solid challenge after the former Man United star had skipped past two of his teammates.

Brentford are growing into the game

Forest’s early dominance seems to have subsided here with Brentford seeing a lot more of the ball then they did during the early stages of the game.

Solid chances remain seemingly hard to come by for both teams however, with both sides yet to register a shot on target with the interval approaching.

Moussa Niakhate booked

Forest have their first yellow card of the afternoon after Niakhate is booked for bring down Jensen on Brentford’s right flank.

The free-kick is whipped in with pace but Murillo is again on hand to deny Brentford a goalscoring opportunity as he heads the ball out for a corner.

Mbeumo’s corner finds Ajer but he is unable to hit the target.

Chance for Lewis-Potter

That’s better from Brentford.

Lewis-Potter finds himself running onto a through ball in the Forest box but 21-year-old debutant Murillo does well to deny him a shooting opportunity and the ball goes out for the first Brentford corner of the afternoon.

The ensuing corner fails to meet its target and Forest clear their lines.

Chance for Elanga

Brentford’s only real chances as we reach the halfway point of the first half have been attempting to pressure Turner when the hosts play the ball back to the Arsenal goalkeeper.

Elanga again had an opporunity to put his side in front but was unable to keep his strike on target as we remain goalless.

Fans are in good voice

Brentford are second best across the park at the moment with Forest controlling possession in the early going and the crowd are in good voice supporting them at the City Ground.

A strong ball in from Sangare is denied but Forest recover the ball in the visitors’ half and continue recyling possession with Elanga at the heart of all of their attacking moves thus far.

Forest in control so far

Great feet from Hudson-Odoi as he moves inside from the left flank but the former Chelsea star’s switch is unable to find Elanga.

Forest have comfortably been the better side during this early period but can they press their advantage and take the lead?

Goal disallowed – Taiwo Awoniyi (Offside)

A strong throw from turner finds Elanga in acres of space at the half-way line. The Swede bombs forward and manages to win Forest their first corner of the game.

The corner is whipped in and Awoniyi latches onto a header at the back post and the ball is in the wet!

But the assistant’s flag is up and Forest are denied an early lead after consultation from VAR.

Awoniyi gets his first chance

Awoniyi attempts to get on the end of a long ball but Flekken responds quickly to stifle the attack from the hosts.

Brentford then launch an attack of their own but Lewis-Potter is unable to deliver his cross to the intended target.

Aaron Hickey booked early

Brentford are pressing high up the pitch in the early going, with Turner put under pressure from the off.

The American deals with the press well though, and as he kicks the ball downfield Hickey is booked for bringing down Elanga.

We’re off!

After a moment of silence to pay tribute to the recently deceased former Forest academy player Maddy Cusack the action gets underway at the City Ground.

Kick-off is just five minutes away!

Stay tuned for live updates from the City Ground with kick-off in the Premier League clash between Nottingham Forest and Brentford just five minutes away.

The fallout from the officiating controversy from Saturday’s clash between Tottenham and Liverpool continues to be felt today.

Darren England was on VAR duty at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium where he incorrectly assumed the original decision for Luis Diaz’s first-half finish had been for the goal to stand, with the mixup leading to the Reds being denied a legitmate opener.

PGMOL offered an apology to Liverpool following the incident and England, who had initially been set to serve as fourth official for today’s match, has been replaced by Craig Pawson.

Brentford form guide

Having comfortably survived the drop in the club’s first season in the Premier League, Thomas Frank went one better in 2022-23 by guiding the club to a commendable 9th-placed finish.

The loss of last season’s top scorer Ivan Toney until January through suspension will no doubt have weaked the clubs offensive options but the Bees have once again enjoyed a solid, if unspectacular start to the campaign.

The Bees were undefeated in their first four Premier League outings but have since lost two on the bounce with Everton getting their first win of the season at the Gtech Community Stadium last weekend.

Nottingham Forest form guide

After guiding Forest to Premier League safety in their return to the top flight last season, Steve Cooper again brought in several new additions throughout the summer in a bid to strengthen his squad.

Though they experienced several slumps in form, Forest recovered well during the run in and have continued their decent form into the current campaign.

An opening weekend defeat to Arsenal was followed up by a win over newly-promoted Sheffield United and a narrow defeat to Man United. The club followed that up with a win over Chelsea, draw with Burnley before being defeated by Man City last weekend.

Follow Mail Sport’s live blog on day three of the Ryder Cup 2023 at the Marco Simone Golf & Country Club in Rome as Team Europe now lead Team USA 10.5-5.5 ahead of Sunday’s singles matches.

SUNDAY TEE TIMES & SCORES

Sunday is singles day at the Ryder Cup but there won’t be any matchmaking going on between the two competing rivals in Rome.

Action will get underway at 11.35am when reigning Masters champion Jon Rahm steps out to tee off, with McIlroy following around 40 minutes later.

Jon Rahm vs Scottie Scheffler – 1 up

3 up Robert MacIntyre vs Wyndham Clark

HOVLAND BEATS MORIKAWA 4 & 3

What a performance! Domance from Hovland. He defeats Collin Morikawa 4 & 3 to put another point on the board for Team Europe.

They’re 11.5 – 5.5. And Hovland has been the star of the show.

It’s a rematch of their singles game at the 2021 Ryder Cup at Whistling Straits where the two were tied on the Sunday.

But the world No 4 has been a standout this week and gives his side the advantage with 11 matches still in play.

Fitzpatrick pulls a shot back

He’s now one-down against Homa!

Meanwhile Robert MacIntyre has put an approach to within five feet from 101 yards out – an excellent shot from the Scotsman!

The biggest Ryder Cup comeback on a final day in history

America are battling hard today. They’re down by five points on the Europeans and need 8.5 points to retain the Ryder Cup.

If they do it, would this be one of the biggest comebacks in Ryder Cup history?

Well not if Justin Rose has anything to say about it – he’s just pulled off another stunning putt to pull his match against Cantlay back to a one-hole deficit!

Any way the biggest ever final day comeback at the Ryder Cup came in 1999 where the US Team famously oveercame a four-point deficit at the Country Club to shock the Europeans winning 14.5-13.5.

Europe returned the favour at Medinah in 2012 – coming into the Sunday with a 10-6 deficit before going on to defeat the USA 14.5-13.5.

Reminder: Europe need four points to win

A lot more red creepiing onto the leaderboard right now.

Scottie Scheffler and Jon Rahm are both on the 16th and both can’t find the green – they’re both in the rough on the fringes.

America are up in three of the opening six matches as we speak.

Afte a fast start they’ve really clawed their way into this. Work still to be done from the Europeans to clinch it.

BUT MORIKAWA HITS BACK

A lot of red slowly staring to creep onto the leaderboard.

Hovland’s chip on for par can’t quite save the hole with Morikawa following suit of Scheffler and draining a 20 foot putt for birdie.

Scheffler gets one back; As Cantlay misses!

Scheffler has just drained a phenomenal birdie putt on 15 to go 1 up on Jon Rahm.

Meanwhile, Patrick Cantlay misses to halve the 12th and it goes to Justin Rose!

Hovland nearly hits a bullseye!

Some shot that was from Viktor Hovland!

He’s about 150 yards out from the pin and dials the ball straight to the flag.

It’s a shame it doesn’t go in with the ball dropping only a couple of feeet ahead of the cup!

He’ll putt for the win here.

Harman chips in!

Wow that was clutch. He’s off the green and he has to get the ball in the hole to halve against Hatton.

It comes out hot off the green and rolls straight towards the flag.

But with the help of the flag stick it remarkably goes in!

Fleetwood goes 1 up

Huge! Fowler misses a putt from around 10 feet to concede the hole!

Hatton meanwhile continues to dazzle – he’s jsut chipped on to within close range on the tenth after conceding the ninth to Harman!

McIlroy goes FOUR up!

What a performance against Sam Burns. He is running the show here and has four points in the bag through 10 holes.

Meanwhilel, Shane Lowry gets one back against Spieth and there’s some big energy from him on the sixth hole…

Aberg in with a chance here!

A great approach! He’s three down against Kopeka and just put a fantastic appraoch into the green on the ninth to give himself a chance to pull one back.

Meanwhile, Shane Lowry gets one back with a huge birdie on six! He lets his emotions come out after fist bumping the air and the crowd respond in full voice.

McIntyre goes 2 up against the US Open champion

Clark misses a putt to halve the hole! And MacIntyre goes two up!

Scheffler brings it back to all-square

A great shot in from Scheffler sees him bring it back to all-square in his match vs Rahm.

Meanwhile, Morikawa is on the ropes against Hovland and the Norwegian looks like he’ll put another one on the board here!

Patrick Cantlay is playing very well here

Cantlay and Rose are on 11 here and the American is really showing how good his putting is.

He holes out for a birdie to put Rose three down!

The American is currently ranked 43rd on the PGA Tour for shots gained with his putter but I’m starting to question that stat, considering how good he’s been with the flat stick today.

And he nails it – Hovland is FOUR up in match two

The FedEx Cup champion makes no mistake with the short putt.

That’s 10 birdies in 12 holes!

I think Viktor Hovland has to be the most in form golfer in the world at the minute and is surely on track for his first major win next season.

He’s got three wins on the PGA Tour this season, clinching the Memorial Tournament back in April, before claiming $18million in the space of seven days – clinching the BMW PGA, before winning the Tour Championship at Eastlake.

He also narrowly came close to winning the PGA Championship in March, coming second to Brooks Koepka and finished T3 at the Players!

Some year he’s having and some Ryder Cup too – Perhaps Europe’s player of the tournament so far?

Hovland’s going to get another here

He’s got two putts to beat Morikawa on 12 and he puts his first to within a couple of feet of the hole.

Spieth goes three-up

The battle of the Open champions! Spieth who won at Birkdale in 2017 has got off to a fast start – he’s now three-up against Lowry who won at Royal Portrush in 2019.

Lowry was embroiled in yesterday’s spat on the 18th green, and notably calmed tensions when Joe LeCava approached the European team.

Rahm goes back into the lead!

His tee shot on 13 is just too good and he takes the hole to go back to 1 up.

Meanwhile, Homa takes the lead against Fitzpatrick and Koepka goes 3 up on Aberg.

Fowler gets one back on Fleetwood

It’s a good birdie on the par 3 fourth from the 2015 Players Champion.

They’re back to all-square in that match.

Meanwhile, Scheffler misses a birdie chance on 13!

Rose hits a par! And tells the fans to shush!

He sinks a par putt to put the pressure back on Cantlay and turns to the fans behind him putting his finger to his lips to shush them!

Cantlay, meanwhile, holes out to level him!

Magnificent shot from Rahm

Things looked like they were edging away from him but he sends a beautiful tee shot down to the pin on the par 3 13th.

But Scheffler is unrelenting. He goes even closer to put the pressure back on the Spaniard.

This is a real clash of the titans!

Rahm recovers; Bob MacIntyre wins the second!

Robert MacIntyre claims the second hole with a save from the sand to make a par as Clark cant hole out to match him.

Rahm levels the scores in his match against Sceffler.

While Jordan Spieth has a 2-hole lead on Shane Lowry. Can the Irishman pull it back?

Hovland’s stats: Seven birdies in 11 holes

The man is on fire and he’s just gone 3 up against Morikawa.

His stroke play score currently sits at -6 through 11 after hitting an uncharacteristic bogey on the eighth.

Rose goes wayward

A bad tee shot from Rose sees him send his ball to where Rahm was earlier on the 10th.

Tricky shot out there as he looks to be safe from the water but stuck next to a tree.

The cameras have caught up with him and its actually not a bad lie compared to Rahm’s earlier.

But he can’t find the green. He lays up on the fairway abotu 50 yards off the pin.

Sam Burns hits an eagle!

He’s back to two-down at the turn of the back nine with a fantastic piece of play to shoot an eagle on the 480-yard ninth.

It’s a tough one for McIlroy who hit a birdie – but he still has the advantage…

Fleetwood goes 1 up!

He’s won the second hole with a birdie against Rickie Fowler.

Fowler’s endured a few tough seasons on the PGA Tour and fought his way back into Ryder Cup contention with his first win since the WM Phoenix Open in 2019 and a top ten placing at the US Open.

He was named as a captain’s pick by Johnson for the Ryder Cup.

But he’s got off to a tricky start this morning – with Fleetwood going ahead…

Koepka goes TWO up on Aberg

Koepka’s on the march today after his disappoinging loss in the fourballs yesterday.

He’s got off to a fast start against Aberg, securing the sixth hole!

Rahm concedes the hole

With Scheffler on the green and Rahm down the bank he can’t get onto the dance floor!

He fluffs his chip! It goes up the bank and then comes back down to his feet at 11.

A tough break for the Masters Champion who will go a hole down.

Meanwhile, Matt Fitzpatrick looks like he’ll concede a hole here after a poor shot into the rough on the ninth.

Several US Team players are not wearing caps today…

We’ve just noticed that several members of the American team are not wearing caps today.

Justin Thomas just doffed an imaginary cap after nailing a birdie putt against Straka on the fourth.

Morikawa, who has a putt to halve the hole against Hovland on 10 is also not wearing a cap.

Hojgaard cruising into control against Schauffele

The Dane is now two holes up against the European champion – a great start for the rookie.

SEPP STRAKA! What a putt!

From 30 yards he winds a huge putt in against Justin Thomas on the fourth hole.

It’s a tough one though as Thomas also birdies to halve the hole and keep the lead to 1 up. His put was equally as impressive. He doffs his imaginary cap – he too is not wearing one today…

Sensational stuff though from the European rookie.

A moment of brilliance from Jon Rahm

How has he done this? This is an almost impossible and he plonks his ball straight on the green.

It’s a shame he can’t quite hole out for a birdie but wow this is sensational stuff.

I suppose there’s a reason why he’s the Masters champion…

Hatton in the driving seat here

He’s just nailed a birdie putt on the six but he’s held to a tie with Harman – who drains his putt from around 10-feet.

How good has Tyrrell Hatton been today?

Rahm can’t quite take the advantage

He’s on for a birdie from that sensational shot out of the ditch but he can’t quite make the putt for birdie!

He’ll tap in for a par though to keep the match level!

Cantlay has extra security out with him today and he takes a two-shot lead over Rose

Tough one for Justin Rose, Cantlay is Mr consistent with the putter and he falls down by two at the seventh.

Speaking of Cantlay, Mail Sport understands the PGA of America has requested extra security out with him on the course today.

Jon Rahm! That is sensational

He has an impossible shot from the ditch by the stream on 11.

The Spaniard has a bridge in front of him, the ball is above his feet and its a torrid lie!

But he winds up a baseball swing and unleashes some incredible power through the ball to send it into the heart of the green.

I take back what I said earlier that might be shot of the day!

In true Seve style he’s pulled off a wonderful save there! He’ll be bounding after that!

Is Jon Rahm in the drink? Scheffler seems in control

Sounds ike he might be okay from his tee shot off the 10th.

But Scheffler is coming back – he hits onto the green here and will likely take the advantage

Shot of the day so far from McIlroy? He goes THERE up

A stunning tee shot on the par three seventh! He lands it within two yards of the hole and taps in against Burns who puts his tee shot off the greeen!

Meanwhile, Shane Lowry is up and running and has just left a big divot on the green with his approach from the fairway – he’ll have a chance for a birdie here

Rose is battling hard here!

Rose hits a solid par on the sixth asking questions of Cantlay who has a lot of work to do to level the Englishman – and he nails it,

Cantlay stays 1 up. But Rose is fighting.

Meanwhile, a good chip on from Rahm sees him within a chance of a big up and down here.

He hit a nasty shot out of the rough and into the left side of the green. Chipping on from about 10 yards he puts it to within a foot of the hole.

But Scheffler has a birdie putt here and he taps in to reduce it to 1 up.

Hojgaard gets off to a flying start – he goes 1 hole ahead of Schauffele

Hojgaard gets off to a brilliant start and adds to the blue on the scoreboard.

He putts out on the first to pull one ahead of the Olympic Champion Xander Schauffele.

Fitzpatrick what a putt! He regains his lead vs Homa

He taps in a fantastic eagle to pull ahead of Homa again after the American got one back!

Meanwhile, Hovland failes to halve the hole on eight after a great approach, but he scores a bogey – to see Morikawa reduce the deficit there to just two!

Cantlay’s caddie tries to clear the air with McIlroy

Reprorts from NBC suggest that Patrick Cantlay’s caddie, Joe LeCava reached out to Rory McIlroy last night to clear the air with the four-time major winner.

It came after he sparked controversy for his celebrations last night while McIlroy was still putting on the 18th green.

Mail Sport’s Charlotte Daily has the latest below…

HATTON GOES 3 UP

The Englishman is now 3 up through four holes!

What a start! Harman can’t tap in his par putt – that’s a huge mistake from the Open Champion who’s putting has been decent this weekend so far.

Are the slower greens playing into Europe’s favour this morning?

Hatton can’t quite add to his lead

Harman’s under pressure for a half now on the fourth.

Hatton’s just put a stunning putt within a couple of feet of the pin.

The American will need to putt out for a par!

Meanwhile, Hovland chips onto the green at hole 8 he’s got a great putt on to take an advantage against Morikawa. Can he make it 4 up?

Lots of movement on the leaderboard

Hovland’s taken a big three-hole lead against Morikawa through seven.

McIlroy is battling against Burns and has two holes on the American.

Fitzpatrick has extended his lead to two aswell.

But Brooks Koepka has taken the lead on Aberg on the first!

Can Ross get one back here?

He’s got a birdie putt on hole five to win one back against Cantlay.

He’s about 15 feet out…

But it just can’t quite drop in! It’s a great effort and Rose knows he’s missed a chance there – but he’s playing briliantly against Cantlay!

He was a hero for Europe on Friday, putting out on the 18th to give Europe half a point with a sensational putt.

He hailed his team-mates after what was a huge start at Marco Simone…

Burns gets one back on Fitzpatrick

He chalks a hole off the leaderboard with a great birdie putt on the fourth to bring the deficit from Fitzpatrick back to just one hole.

Agonisingly close from Rahm

He putts to within inches of the hole on seventh and just can’t quite win the hole with the ball hanging out right by a fraction.

Scheffler will hold him to par for a half.

Brooks Koepka starts well on the first

It’s a good start from Koepka and I reckon he’s going to be a tough player to crack out there.

He’s just put his approach to within a few yards of the hole.

But Ludvig Aberg isn’t going to be an easy man to beat either.

Aberg’s sensational rise to the top of golf this season has been a joy to behold after having only earned his PGA Tour Card mid-way through the season – after graduating from the PGA Tour University.

He won at the Omega European Masters earlier this summer and has been one of the best ball strikers this week.

Rose keeps Cantlay to 1 up

Justin Rose putts out for par on the fourth.

His putting has been incredible and he stops Cantlay from pulling further ahead with Cantlay unable to tap in for birdie.

He’s been a stand up this weekend after missing Whistling Straits in 2021. His record before the tournament sits at 2-2-1 in the singles. Can he improve that today?

Breaking: US PGA request extra security for Patrick Cantlay

Some more on hat-gate now and Mail Sport’s Riath Al-Samarrai understands that US PGA have requested extra security for Patrick Cantlay today following the controversy that surrounded the green on 18th last night.

McIlroy gets another off Burns – He’s 2 up!

The action is coming thick and fast now – Rory goes 2 up.

He birdies the third hole with a fantastic down hill putt!

Europe are up in five of the six matches out there right now!

Scheffler pulls one back, but Tyrrell Hatton puts more blue on the board

Scheffler brings Rahm back to just 1 up with a great putt on hole 6.

But Tyrrel Hatton has just claimed the first hole in his match against Brian Harman.

Some start for the Europeans!

Where can you score around Marco Simone?

This week, the Marco Simone course will play as a par 71 stretching, to an impressive 7181 yards, a pretty long distance, but one that the players will be used to.

For context, the Torrey Pines south course, the site of the 2021 US Open stretched to a whopping 7765 yards, one of the longest tracks on the PGA Tour, while Augusta National spans to around 7510 yards.

And it will be hard to score this weekend. The course is set up with three par 5s and four par 3s, with the players being welcomed onto the front nine by a trio of par 4s.

Combining the distance, the heat and the undulating terrain and this course is set to be a real caddie killer – there are plenty of hills and blind shots out there, so staying hydrated during the long days will be key.

The course starts with a 445 yard par 4, with the green being well-protected on the the first hole which dog legs slightly left. A good start will be needed, with players to face an enormous 506 yard par 4 on the second, one of the hardest holes out there, which challenges players with a dog leg left.

The first par 3 comes in at the fourth hole. Stretching to 188 yards, the pin placement here will be pivotal – with it set up down the left side of the green then players will have a much easier chance to score birdie or better.

A 302 yard par 4 follows to cap off the first five holes which will again present a good opportunity for those who can drive the green, but the challenge here is the body of water snaking its way along the front-left of the green.

So where can these players score today in the front nine?

Good strike from Rahm from a tricky lie

He’s on the cusp of the fairway and nails an approach to the green. He’ll putt for birdie on the sixth.

But Scheffler goes closer! The American can get one back here!

Meanwhile, here’s how the European fans greeted McIlroy on the frist tee box…

HOVLAND 2 UP!

What a start from the Norwegian!

He’s two up through four.

Burns has just halved against McIlroy on two, while Scheffler holes out a birdie to stop Rahm taking a three-hole lead.

Paul McGinley: ‘They have certainly reset overnight’

Hatton and Harman teeing off in the next game now. Both are in tricky lies on the first.

Meanwhile Paul McGinley has spoken on the European’s fast start. They look in the mood this morning so far and are now up in four of the six matches out there now

McGinley said to Sky Sports: ‘The body language and facial expressions of the European team is very impressive.

‘They all look focused and poised and have certainly reset overnight. That’s a sign of a good meeting last night. Based on a resetting the tone after all the emotion. They’ve come out with a really good set of purpose.’

Fitzpatrick goes 1 up!

A great hole from the Englishman and he gets down in three to take the first hole of their match, with Homa unable to get on the green.

Great start from the 2022 US Open champ!

Meanwhile, Rahm puts his approach to within a few feet of the hole on the fifth.

More on the LeCava McIlroy fude

According to NBC the caddie has reeached out to the four-time major winner to clear the air after their altercation last night.

Mail Sport’s Charlotte Daily has the full story here…

Fitzpatrick takes the advantage

He’s chipped on to go 10 feet out on the first.

Tricky shotin from Homa. He’s in the second cut and can’t find the green! The ball trickles back down the fairway in approach.

Scheffler meanwhile can’t find the green on the fifth!

The noise when Rory tee’d off

VIKTOR HOVLAND!

He’s beaten Morikawa with another excellent putt on the third!

The FedEx Cup champion, although beaten in the fourballs yesterday by Burns and Morikawa, has been sensational this week.

Here he was last night getting a well deserved rest!

Maybe the man of the tournament so far for Europe?

Cantlay puts some red on the board!

A fantastic shot from Patrick Cantlay – he;s got ice in his veins.

He’s about 30 yards out and winds his shot in for a birdie against Rose on the third.

Meanwhile, Scheffler matches Rahm havling the fourth – tension starting to build!

Rory gets a point on the board!

He wins the first with Burns unable to hole out!

Fitzpatrick vs Homa!

Our fifth match is starting now. And it’s a big one!

It’s Homa to go first and he sends his tee shot down the right into the rough.

He was outstanding yesterday – perhaps the best player in the fourball session winning four holes against Fleetwood and Hojgaard.

But Fitzpatrick one-ups him – he goes straight down the middle with his drive.

Two fantastic shots!

Sam Burns hist a fanrtasic bunker shot from out of the bunker on the first.

He’s on in two here and can keep the pressure on McIlroy who goes within a couple of feet from the fringes – looks like they’re both playing for par here but McIlroy has the advantage

Meanwhile on two, Rose is playing from the rough and its a great shot – it lands on the fairway and trickles onto the green. He’s got a way into the hole but he’ll have a good chance for a par here.

Cantlay misses birdie and Rose holes out for par

Cantlay misses a birdie putt uncharacteristically and Justin Rose makes no mistake in tapping in for par. They’ll halve the first.

Morikawa hits a clutch par putt on two to tkeep him and Viktor Hovland level through two.

Luke Donald: ‘Look at that start from our guys’

Luke Donald has lauded the fast start from his guys after being asked whether they’re pumped up today following yesterday’s controversy.

We are excited for today, a new day. Look at that start from the guys, Jon Rahm birdying the first, Viktor and Rose on the fairways, these guys are ready.

We want to start strong, Jon has been our statistically strongest player, he is a giant in the game we know that. We expect a lot of blue early.I have ultimate confidence in my team from day one, we know what the mission is and want to go and enjoy the day.

Burns to hit first in match four

This could be the deciding match for Team Europe.

But Burns slices his tee shot. It goes wildly into a group of spectators on the right of the fairway.

He hits a high fade and its spot on.

He’s whacked that over 300 yards and is just behind the bunker on the right of the fairway.

McIlroy paces on out of the tee box and is soaking up the atmosphere of the fans singing ‘Zombie’ by The Cranberries.

Rory enters the arena! HUGE reception

European fans are singing ‘Zombie’ by the Cranberries at Rory here – a song that has been synonymous with the Irish Rugby team at the World Cup this year.

But instead of signing the word ‘Zombie’ – they’ve replaced it with ‘Rory’!

Hovland on the green in two

Good shot from Viktor, and he gets a bit lucky. The grass on the back right keeps his ball from rolling off.

Morikawa on two plays a decent blind approach shot – his approach game in 2021 was phenomenal and it shows. Great effort from where he was.

Scheffler finds the heart of the green on three. But it’s perhaps not his best, the pin is to the left of the green so he’ll have about 40 feet to putt here.

Rahm meanwhile can’t find the green. He’s off the back in the first cut.

Cantlay: ‘I was too busy letting out all the emotion’

Speaking yesterday on the celebrations on the 18th tee that have sparked controversy, Patrick Cantlay admitted he was unaware of any animosity.

He said: ‘I was too busy letting out all the emotion that built up over the day. I didn’t get a good look at it.

When pressed on whether he was not wearing the cap in protest he added: ‘Not at all. This is the first I heard of it right when I got off the green. That’s the furthest thing from the truth.’

He’s letting his golf do the work today too. He’s just hit his approach on the first to within a couple of feet from 160 yards out.

Rose hits the green too, but his accuracy is not as good, he’s about 15 yards off the cup.

There’s a snake on the second tee box?

It’s squirming away in front of Viktor Hovland on the tee box, but doesn’t put him off – he slams his drive down the middle.

Rahm and Scheffler are teeing off on the 450 yard par 4 third. Scheffler takes an iron and looks like he’s played it well. He’s a couple of yards ahead of Rahm on the fairway but have a difficult lie here, the ball will be below both of their feet.

Cantlay vs Rose about to tee off

The European fans have their hats in the air again on the first tee.

Cantlay is going to hit first here.

And it’s a brilliant strike. Straight down the middle!

The American’s picked up where he started yesterday, hitting birdies on 16, 17 and 18.

Rose to go next. He’s been in fine form this week on his return to the Ryder Cup after missing out on Whistling Straits.

Perfect drive. Slap bang in the middle. He’s a few yards back from Cantlay but might have a slightly better angle in here.

Morikawa misses!

Hovland fist pumps the air before strutting off to the second tee box.

It’s all square in this match through 1.

Meanwhile here comes Patrick Cantlay.

Scheffler hits a beauty on hole 2

Scheffler’s got a bit of momentum here. He’s bit back at Rahm here putting his approach to within a couple of yards for the hole. Advantage America.

Meanwhile, Morikawa has played a stunning approach shot into the green from the left rough – excellent play from him, he’ll have a putt for birdie.

But wait! Hovland’s just put his shot from around 40 feet out to within an inch of the hole! Ah that was agonisingly close!!!

He’ll tap in for par, with Morikawa able to win the first if he can putt out here.

‘This is one of the most united teams I have ever been associated with’: Zach Johnson

More from the US Team captain now, and Johnson has hit out at the reports that have claimed there’s been a rift in the US Team camp.

Speaking on the claims he said: ‘That is extremely poor journalism unless I know something that’s out there — there is not a rift in this team room. This is one of the most united teams I have ever been associated with.

‘And when it comes to the dollar sign, I don’t mean to sound cliché, but the Ryder Cup is about more than any of that. It’s about standing with a band of guys to represent your nation, to represent more than you in the game of golf.

‘It’s a sport for one week. And you know what, I would say if there’s anything that deals with money, there’s guys that would pay to play in this. So I am not understanding that, and I think that is extremely inaccurate and arguably irresponsible.’

Johnson has also added when asked why Cantlay wasn’t wearing a cap:’ Somebody else mentioned that to me, too. I guess it’s like a social media — is it viral thing right now that he’s not wearing (one)? I don’t think he likes the fit of the hats. I know that. That’s what the facts are. He doesn’t like the fit of the hats. The facts are he didn’t wear a hat two years ago at Whistling Straits. And another fact, some of the stalwarts and legends of the European game that I admire and, frankly, have modelled

Jon Rahm takes first blood

Huge putt from 15 feet for the Spaniard and he wins the hole!

That is a massive birdie from the Masters champion.

It’s the dream start for Europe and he looks very determined. Not a massive celebration but he’s looking focused here.

Just remembered this is a rematch of their battle at Whistling Straits.

Scottie Scheffler got the win that day 4 & 3, but Rahm’s in for revenge here!

Morikawa and Hovland ready to go in match 2

We can hear shouting in the distance on the first tee.

But it’s Morikawa to go first. He had a good end to his match yesterday alongside Sam Burns, but he pulls his shot left into the spectators! Not a good start.

Hovland’s sent his right down the middle – a brilliant strike.

Some news coming in from the green at the first…

Scheffler to putt first

Hes about 30 feet out from the hole and puts his shot short! It needed a little more muscle to get that one in, but its not bad, he has a putt for par here and the pressure is on Rahm to win this hole!

Breaking: Joe LeCava reportedly reached out to McIlroy to apologise

According to NBC, Joe LeCava reportedly reached out to Rory McIlroy last night to apologise and clear the air…

Two excellent approach shots here

Rahm and Scheffler both on the green here.

The Spaniard gets his a little closer, but Scheffler’s also on for birdie.

‘I don’t know about that’: Zach Johnson doesn’t think Joe LeCava crossed the line on the 18th

In his press conference after Saturday’s play, US Team captain Zach Johnson admitted he didn’t think Joe LeCava over-stepped the line in with his celebrations as Rory McIlroy tried to hit his putt to halve the match.

Speaking on the celebrations he said: ‘Sure. Well, what I saw on 18 was a phenomenal putt and a celebration by some of our guys, and you know, I saw passion and all of what’s great in the Ryder Cup come out.

‘And to my knowledge, based on what I was told, that was diffused after the match, and so I’m told it’s all good. Yeah, that’s really all I know.’

He was asked about LeCava’s actions too, and was pressed particularly on whether he thought his actions were within the spirit of the game: ‘I don’t know about that. I mean, to my knowledge, it was diffused. I spoke with Joe after, and he said he talked to Rory and it was all good. That’s all I know.’

Rahm hits a beauty too!

It’s two pretty exceptional tee shots on the first here.

Rahm goes straight down the middle too with a lovely fade.

But I think Scheffler’s got the distance on him here – they’ll have around 1600 yards in to the pin.

Meanwhile, let’s take a look at what the captains said after yesterday’s drama!

Scheffler to tee off first – but the European fans are giving him a hard time!

Scottie’s gettin plenty of ‘oles’ for his practice swings!

Apparently European fans have been giving him a hard time singing ‘We saw you cry on the telly!’

He steps up and sends his drive right down the middle!

A good response from the world No 1.

Huge roar for Rahm!

The first tee is a cauldron of noise right now.

Reminder, Europe need four points to win the Ryder cup.

Jon Rahm and Scottie Scheffler are entering the arena!

What a match this is going to be!

Rahm v Scheffler – who’s winning this one then?

There is some atmosphere on the first tee right now – WOW.

The moment that sparked the drama!

He’s waving his hat there for a long, long time.

Let me know in the comments whether you think he crossed the line here?

‘Seve would turn in his grave’ – Sir Nick Faldo

Speaking to Sky Sports on whether players should be paid in the Ryder Cup, Sir Nick Faldo said to Sky Sports: ‘Seve Ballesteros would turn in his grave.’

Paul McGinley added: ‘It’s a shame it’s come to this – this sense of entitlement. The Americans get a pension thanks to the Ryder Cup.’

Not long to go now!!

We’ve got a huge tee time coming up at 11.35 with Masters champion Jon Rahm taking on world No 1 Scottie Scheffler.

Scheffler didn’t have a great day yesterday at all. He and Brooks Koepka were beaten 9 & 7 by Viktor Hovland and Ludvig Aberg.

The American was seen dejected after the match – but will that fuel his fire today against Rahm?

Did Joe LeCava overstep the mark on the green?

Here’s what our reporters Ollie Holt and Riath Al-Samarrai say, do you agree?

Cantlay: ‘The hat doesn’t fit!’

So it’s been claimed that Cantlay is protesting players not being paid at the Ryder Cup and is reportedly not wearing a cap in protest of that.

Players at the Ryder Cup do not play for prize money.

He’s the only player out there not wearing a cap. And it’s worth noting he didn’t wear a cap at Whistling Straits in 2021.

After the match against McIlroy and Fitzpatrick on Saturday, he gave his reasons for not wearing the cap.

‘It just doesn’t fit. It’s as simple as that. I didn’t wear it at Whistling Straits because the hat just doesn’t fit, so that’s really all it is?’

So who is Joe LeCava?

There’s a lot to ingest from what happened on the 18th green last night.

Joe LeCava was shouting and gesticulating with Rory McIlroy as he tried to make a putt to halve the match.

After Patrick Cantlay putted out, LeCava was stood waving his hat and didn’t move out of McIlroy’s way after he was repeatedly asked politely to move by the Northern Irishman.

LeCava used to work alongside Tiger Woods and also helped Freddie Couples take 12 PGA Tour wins. He’s one of the most well-known and experienced caddies in the world.

ICYMI: Lowry bundles McIlroy into a car

Will Rory McIlroy be fired up today?

He’s out at 12:11 this morning and takes on Sam Burns, who had a huge day yesterday picking up four holes and a point for his team alongside Collin Morikawa.

This is set to be a huge bout.

But why all the fuss?

Earlier in the day, Sky Sports released a report that Patrick Cantlay wasn’t wearing a hat at the tournament in protest that players weren’t getting paid to play at the Ryder Cup.

It sparked a lot of talk around the course with European fans poking fun at the former FedEx Cup winner, taking their hats off and waving at him while he walked down the 16th fairway.

The report claimed that Cantlay was at the heart of a rift in the US Team. dressing room.

But as he approached the 18th to claim the final match, all the US players took their caps off and hit back at the claims, waving them back at the European fans as Cantlay claimed the final match point with his putt on 18.

Hat-gate ignites the Ryder Cup

There was plenty of drama yesterday at the Ryder Cup on the 18th green.

It was ignited by Patrick Cantlay’s caddie after the American won the final match of Saturday’s fourballs.

It appeared that he had been celebrating excessively in front of Rory McIlroy who was still to hit his putt and was trying to line up his final shot.

McIlroy could have halved the hole, had he nailed the putt.

Here’s the incident on the green…

But Joe LaCava appeared to wave his cap in front of him in celebration, and started speaking to him while McIlroy was trying to read the green before putting out.

It sparked much debate on social media, and on the course! The caddie then turned to the European players on the edge of the green and started to gesticulate with them too – with Shane Lowry acting as the peace keeper.

Tensions boiled over on the 18th, but they spilled over into the car park too after the match – with McIlroy seen in a video angrily yelling at what appeared to be LaCava, with the Northern Irishman also seeming to clash with Justin Thomas’s caddie Jim ‘Bones’ Mackay, who was also notably Phil Mickelson’s caddie.

Will last night’s drama fuel the fire in Europe today?

DAY TWO

What a week its been! We’re gearing up for a huge day today and the players are in the house!

Europe need FOUR points to win the Ryder Cup.

And Luke Donald looks like he’s gone strong early on with his picks!

But they’ll be met by some big stars on the US team.

RIATH AL-SAMARRAI IN ROME: The finest golfers of the US started the day as a joke and they ended it as a punchline. But hats off to those Americans – they are not giving up this Ryder Cup to Europe without a fight.

If they are to pull it off, and what a sizeable ‘if’ that is, it will require the biggest capitulation this contest has ever seen.

OLIVER HOLT IN ROME: When Rory McIlroy walked down the hill from the 16th tee to the fairway as the shadows lengthened yesterday evening, it felt like one of the great scenes in the emotional hinterland of this competition.

Lines of noble cedars stood like sentries, silhouetted against the fading light and thousands of fans sang McIlroy’s name and waved their caps in the air. It felt as if we had been transported back to the Matthews Cup Final and a golden age of sport.

Good morning and welcome to the final day of the Ryder Cup

Whatsapp boss denies Meta are set to start introducing ADVERTS to the messaging system to create a new income stream for the company

  • Head of Whatsapp Will Cathcart has debunked claims of a big change to the app

The Head of Whatsapp at Meta, Will Cathcart, has debunked reports that a massive change is coming for the popular messaging app.

Users feared for the worst after the Financial Times published an article claiming that teams at Meta have been ‘discussing whether to show ads in Whatsapp for the first time’.

Cathcart quickly shut down the theory, tweeting ‘This @FT story is false. We aren’t doing this’.

Jokingly adding ‘Also it looks like you misspelled Brian’s name,’ referring to Brian Acton, co-founder of Whatsapp.

The Financial Times later amended the article, writing ‘This article has been updated to incorporate Cathcart’s comments and to correct the spelling of Brian Acton’s name’.

A community note was also added to a tweet linking the article on X, letting users know the Head of Whatsapp claims it is false.

One pleased user, replied ‘Please never do that! Whatsapp is just amazing the way it is right now.’

Another added ‘Thank goodness for @CommunityNotes’.

However, not everyone was against the move, some users were actually disappointed it had been disproven.

Someone said ‘But that would have been great strategy,’ with another commenter arguing back ‘It would certainly not be a strategy rather a distraction and annoying to say the least.

‘Imagine you’re chatting and from no where you see unnecessary ads popping up. Whatsapp is fine without it.’

Others thought the app had already introduced ads, asking ‘But Im already getting recommended news, media outlet channels, celebrity channels in my WhatsApp status section. How’s that different from Ads?’

Another questioned ‘So you are definitely not discussing whether to show ads in lists of conversations with contacts on the WhatsApp chat screen, but no final decisions have been made? Or not discussing ads at all?’

Others thought the app had already introduced ads, asking 'But Im already getting recommended news, media outlet channels, celebrity channels in my WhatsApp status section. How's that different from Ads?'

While someone else wrote ‘Cool, how are you planning to monetize WhatsApp?’

It comes after the app is reportedly preparing to make some major changes to its platform, with new design features supposedly coming to iPhone and Android.

Insiders claim that Mark Zuckerberg’s messaging app could have a complete makeover in the coming months, with a series of design tweaks in the works, including revamped colours and new buttons.

UN mission arrives in Nagorno-Karabakh for first visit in 30 years

Published

A United Nations mission arrived in Nagorno-Karabakh on Sunday, Azerbaijan said, after almost the entire ethnic-Armenian population fled since Baku recaptured the breakaway enclave.

An Azerbaijani presidency spokesman told AFP that a “UN mission arrived in Karabakh on Sunday morning” – mainly to assess humanitarian needs.

It marks the first time in about 30 years that the international body has gained access to the region.

Armenian separatists, who had controlled the region for three decades, agreed to disarm, dissolve their government and reintegrate with Baku following a one-day Azerbaijani offensive last week.

France has lashed out at Azerbaijan for only allowing the mission in after most residents had already fled.

The end of Karabakh’s separatist bid dealt a heavy blow to a centuries-old dream by Armenians of reuniting what they say are their ancestral lands, divided among regional powers since the Middle Ages.

Nearly all of Karabakh’s estimated 120,000 residents fled the territory over the following days, sparking a refugee crisis.

Nazeli Baghdasaryan, spokeswoman of the Armenian prime minister, said “100,483 forcefully displaced persons arrived in Armenia” by Sunday morning.

She said 45,516 refugees were now in temporary accommodation.

Tragic page

On Sunday, Armenia observed a national day of prayer for the region.

Bells tolled in churches across the country, and the head of the Armenian Apostolic Church, Karekin II, lead a service in the nation’s main cathedral Echmiadzin, close to the capital Yerevan.

Clergymen in ornate robes sang ancient chants at an open-air altar outside the imposing cathedral built in a pale pink limestone.

Hundreds attended the religious service in the church of Saint Sarkis, in Yerevan.

“One of the most tragic pages of Armenian history is being written today,” 28-year-old Mariam Vartanyan told AFP, standing in the crowd of worshippers wrapped in the smoke of burning incense.

Architect Artur Hayrapetyan, 25, said: “I am praying for the end of this disaster in Karabakh, for Armenia’s survival.”

Yerevan has accused Baku of “ethnic cleansing” — an allegation that Baku rejected — calling on Armenians not to leave their homes and reintegrate with Azerbaijan where their rights would be respected.

Armenia, a country of 2.8 million, faces a major challenge housing the sudden influx of refugees.

The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies on Friday announced an emergency appeal for 20 million Swiss Francs ($22 million) to help those fleeing.

Azerbaijan is now holding “re-integration” talks with separatist leaders while, at the same time detaining some senior figures from its former government and military command.

Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan are set to meet on Thursday in the Spanish city of Granada for Western-mediated talks aimed at ending their historic enmity.

With the two countries’ relations poisoned by ethnic hatred ensuing from three wars in as many decades, several rounds of negotiations mediated by Brussels and Washington have so far failed to bring about a breakthrough.

TONY HETHERINGTON: UPS wrongly charged me import duties on an antique clock I bought in Vienna

TONY HETHERINGTON: UPS wrongly charged me import duties on an antique clock I bought in Vienna

Tony Hetherington is Financial Mail on Sunday’s ace investigator, fighting readers corners, revealing the truth that lies behind closed doors and winning victories for those who have been left out-of-pocket. Find out how to contact him below.

R.N. writes: I bought an antique clock at auction in Vienna, and arranged for packing and shipping using UPS.

I had full clearance instructions in triplicate attached to the parcel, but through ignorance or arrogance UPS made all of the three potential errors in calculating tax and duties.

Tony Hetherington replies: Don’t you just love it when the customer turns out to know more than the people getting paid for providing a service?

I know I do – I once sacked a firm of solicitors who demanded all sorts of personal information from me, falsely claiming it was their legal duty under money-laundering regulations, right up to the point that it became clear I knew more about those regulations than they did.

Flight of fancy: UPS made all of the three potential errors in calculating tax and duties

Flight of fancy: UPS made all of the three potential errors in calculating tax and duties

Flight of fancy: UPS made all of the three potential errors in calculating tax and duties

With you, UPS could hardly have picked on a worse customer to shower with demands that were simply wrong. The clock you bought was between 100 and 250 years old, so value added tax (VAT) should only be due at 5 per cent. UPS tried to charge you 20 per cent.

There is no import duty on antiques of this sort, but UPS slapped an import duty charge on your bill. And UPS based its VAT calculation on the whole amount of the invoice from the Vienna auction house. Instead, the VAT should only be due on the ‘hammer price’ – the €1,400 (about £1,200) you bid – and not on the additional buyer’s premium and Austrian VAT.

The result of all this was that when the UPS driver turned up at your door, he demanded £321. The correct amount should have been £82, and that would have included UPS’s own clearance fee of £12. You refused to pay.

And why do I say that UPS picked the wrong customer to overcharge? Well, they could never have expected that you used to be a senior official at the European Commission, where your specialist field was customs duties and VAT. You were involved in drawing up all those rules that UPS got wrong and you got right. All UPS needed to do was follow the instructions you helpfully attached to the parcel.

When I asked UPS to comment, it told me: ‘The package was successfully delivered to the customer on the first attempt, and the invoice discrepancy has been resolved without additional cost to the customer.’

When you try to overcharge a customer by more than £200, it’s a bit rich to describe this as an ‘invoice discrepancy’! And to say that UPS sorted this out ‘without additional cost’ leaves me wondering how they could possibly have demanded more when they were demanding too much in the first place.

When I relayed this to you, you had received your antique clock but told me that the delivery was actually rescheduled five times. And you still had no correct bill, and no proof of import or customs clearance.

So, I went back to UPS, which said: ‘Of course, there are cases where technical or clerical errors occur; we take care to resolve them for our customers.’ A few days later, UPS gave you a corrected invoice and paperwork. And as a gesture of goodwill, it has cancelled the £82 charge. About time.

Help…BT is ruining business

N.H. writes: My son and I run a small firm in St Helens, Merseyside, and we are at our wits’ end because BT will not reinstate our phone line.

Tony Hetherington replies: You told me BT came to your firm to repair the line, and then there was a discussion about renewing your contract.

BT sent a new router, and then your phone went dead. Using different phones, you called BT a number of times, speaking to someone in another country and going through the same security questions each time, but nobody solved the problem.

You are now close to the point where jobs are at stake. I contacted BT on your behalf.

Three days later, it issued an apology, saying: ‘Due to an error in our records, the original order was routed to the incorrect exchange.’

An engineer came to your company on the same day and set up an interim telephone line. Your broadband is working, and your original number has now been reactivated as well.

Investors who put their savings into shares in medicinal cannabis company Orange River Capital may now have to count the cost of their decision as the business looks likely to disappear in a puff of smoke.

The company’s shares were marketed with the prospect of 15 per cent annual dividends and 300 per cent capital gains, but it has failed to file accounts that were legally due in May.

Bad taste: Cannabis company Orange River Capital looks likely to disappear in a puff of smoke

Officials at Companies House have begun proceedings to have it compulsorily struck off and dissolved. Investors say dividends due last January and in July have not been paid.

I warned in September last year that the share offering was riddled with false claims. It was promoted in marketing emails by London financial newspaper CityA.M., but the formal offer document named a director who had already quit, and claimed backing from a firm of stockbrokers that had gone into liquidation.

And it advertised its ‘proven track record’ while at the same time its own filings showed it had not yet traded.

Worse perhaps, the man behind the share offering falsified his own track record. Lee Farbrace, 45, of Folkestone in Kent, listed five directorships on his CV, but left out his role as boss of EMI Wealth Limited.

An investor who poured £130,000 into the business got back just £30,000. The company was compulsorily struck off and dissolved last October. Farbrace did not reply to repeated invitations to comment on complaints that his latest venture now owes money to investors.

11:15am: British training troops in Ukraine could be legitimate targets: Medvedev

Former Russian president Dmitry Medvedev on Sunday suggested that British soldiers training Ukrainian troops in Ukraine would be legitimate targets for Russian forces, as would German factories producing Taurus missiles should they supply Kyiv.

Medvedev, who is deputy chairman of Russia’s Security Council, and has become an increasingly hawkish and anti-Western figure in Russian politics, said such steps by the West were bringing World War Three closer.

In a post on Telegram, Medvedev first directed his ire towards recently appointed British Defence Minister Grant Shapps, who said in a newspaper interview that London wants to deploy military instructors to Ukraine, in addition to training Ukrainian armed forces in Britain or other Western countries as at present.

10:34am: Five cargo vessels heading for Ukrainian Black Sea ports: MarineTraffic

Five new ships are on their way to Ukrainian sea ports using a new corridor opened to resume predominantly agricultural exports, an alternative arrangement to the Black Sea grain deal blocked by Russia, the MarineTraffic database showed on Sunday.

The MarineTraffic database showed earlier on Sunday that three cargo vessels left Ukrainian Black Sea ports after loading, the latest to sail since Kyiv set up a temporary “humanitarian corridor” after Russia quit a deal allowing safe passage for Ukraine exports.

The database identified the five vessels heading towards the ports as Olga, Ida, Forza Doria, New Legacy and Danny Boy.

9:11am: Slovak populists opposed to Ukraine aid win election

A populist party that wants to stop military aid to Ukraine and is critical of the EU and NATO has won Slovakia’s election, results showed on Sunday.

The Smer-SD party led by former prime minister Robert Fico scored 23.3 percent, beating the centrist Progressive Slovakia on 17 percent, with almost all votes counted.

8:15am: Ukraine shoots down 16 of 30 Russian drones

Ukraine’s air defence systems shot down 16 out of around 30 drones that Russia launched on Ukraine’s territory overnight, according to Ukrainian Air Forces.

It said on Telegram messaging app that drones were launched from the southern, southeastern and northern directions.

Authorities said the central Ukrainian Cherkasy region was under the attack.

“At night, the enemy massively attacked our Cherkasy region with attack drones. Unfortunately, there were hits on industrial infrastructure in (the city of) Uman,” Cherkasy Governor Ihor Taburets said on Telegram.

“As a result, fires broke out in warehouses. In particular, where grain was stored,” he said, adding that one person was injured.

Key developments from Saturday, September 30:

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Saturday opened Kyiv’s first International Defence Industries Forum in a bid to attract more manufacturers to build arms in Ukraine.

Zelensky said Kyiv aims to develop defence production in cooperation with global industry leaders.

Russian President Vladimir Putin marked the anniversary of the annexation of Ukrainian regions. In an address to mark the first anniversary of the annexation, Putin insisted that it was carried out “in full accordance with international norms”. He also claimed that residents of the Donetsk, Luhansk, Zaporizhzhia and Kherson regions had again expressed their desire to be part of Russia in local elections earlier this month.

The West has denounced both the referendum votes carried out last year and the recent ballots as a sham. The votes were held as Russian authorities attempted to tighten their grip on territories Moscow illegally annexed a year ago and still does not fully control.

‘This may be controversial, but Niagara Falls is overrated,’ she wrote across a TikTok video.

‘Tourist trap to the max,’ she added in the caption.

In the video, she said that her boyfriend, Sam, who hails from the UK, ‘really wanted to go’ and see the famous waterfalls, so they decided to take a day trip together.

She explained that they had to pay $15 for parking, and while the view was nice, it was hard to enjoy it thanks to the immense amount of people.

‘Sure, the view isn’t bad, but what you’re not seeing are the crowds of people and tacky town,’ she said.

‘I hate to say it but it’s the Vegas of Canada. I mean look at this water, this is exactly what you’re actually seeing when you look down,’ she added, while showcasing a brown murky pool.

Instead, Amy suggested driving 30 minutes over to a town called Niagara on the Lake, which sits on the edge of Lake Ontario.

She ended her TikTok by showing her and her boyfriend sitting and enjoying a glass of wine together.

The area outside of Niagara Falls, called Clifton Hill, is well known for being a highly popular destination filled with lavish casinos and resorts, restaurants, amusement parks, museums and shops.

Amy spoke further about some of the downsides to visiting the ‘natural wonder of the world’ on her Instagram.

‘Parking is a minimum of $15 for the day, but it could be $20+ of you want to be closer to the falls,’ she wrote.

‘[No matter what day you go] you’re always going to be among a crowd of people.

‘We went on a Monday and it was packed.

‘And you really only need 30 minutes at the falls because there isn’t much to do.’

She slammed the ‘commercialized town built around the falls,’ claiming that it ‘really takes away from the beauty.’

‘[The area outside of it] is super tacky and filled with chain restaurants and bad amusement parks. Avoid if you can,’ she said.

‘It is overrated,’ one person agreed. ‘You need to go on the trails/hikes and the journey behind the falls and stuff like that to really enjoy it.’

‘As someone who lives in the area, fully agree,’ someone else said.

‘I was disappointed my first time, I thought it would be surrounded by mountains,’ another user shared.

A fourth comment read, ‘We totally agree with you. Way to crowded. We loved Niagara on the Lake.’

‘Finally, someone said it,’ commented a different person. A sixth simply wrote, ‘So real.’

Others, however, defended the area, with one person insisting, ‘No Niagara is beautiful and amazing.’

‘I love my city, it’s not tacky,’ someone else replied. Another wrote, ‘Nah, Niagara Falls is fire.’

In the end, Amy said it was simply ‘not her vibe.’

HEALTHNOTES: No breast checks for one in three women, new survey claims

A third of British women do not regularly check their breasts for signs of cancer, a survey suggests.

And a quarter of those polled said they were not confident that they could spot the tell-tale symptoms.

The NHS recommends that women see their GP if they notice a change in size or shape of their breasts, a difference in the feel of the skin, a new lump or swelling, discharge from either nipple, a change in nipple position, a fresh rash or any discomfort or pain.

The survey of 1,000 women, carried out by beauty brand Avon, found that those aged between 18 and 24 were least confident at carrying out self-examinations compared with other age groups.

Some 56,000 women in the UK are diagnosed with breast cancer every year and the condition affects roughly one in seven women during their lifetime.

Octopus suckers could be the key to an injection-free method of delivering drugs. Researchers at Zurich University have developed a penny-sized rubber patch which mimics the animal’s suction pads to sit on the inside of the cheeks. Medication in the patch is then absorbed into the bloodstream. After successful animal studies, patients are now being recruited for a clinical trial. Studies estimate that as many as ten per cent of Britons have a phobia of needles.

More than a third of people in the UK have not discussed end-of-life plans with their family, a poll suggests. The survey found that three-quarters had not written a will while only a fifth had organised legal papers such as a lasting power of attorney, in case they lost the mental ability to make their own decisions. The survey of 2,000 adults by finance firm Legal and General also suggests 85 per cent of people had not written any funeral instructions. Spokesman Paula Llewellyn said: ‘Open conversations about death are crucial towards securing your loved ones’ financial wellbeing.’

A suicide bomber detonated an explosive device near the Turkish interior ministry building in Ankara on Sunday, while a second assailant was killed in a shootout with police, according to Turkey’s interior ministry.

“Two terrorists arrived in a light military vehicle at around 9:30 am (0630 GMT), in front of the entrance gate of the General Directorate of Security of our ministry of the interior, and carried out a bomb attack,” Turkey’s interior ministry said.

Two police officers were slightly injured during the attack near the ministry of interior affairs, Minister Ali Yerlikaya said on X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter.

Yerlikaya said the assailants arrived at the scene inside a light commercial vehicle.

Turkish media earlier reported that an explosion and gunfire was heard near the parliament and ministerial buildings in the heart of Ankara on Sunday morning. Turkey’s parliament opens Sunday after a summer recess.

There was no immediate information on the assailants. Kurdish and far-left militant groups as well as the Islamic State (IS) group have carried out deadly attacks throughout the country in the past.

Television footage showed bomb squads working near a parked vehicle in the area which is located near the Turkish Grand National Assembly and other government buildings. Police cordoned off access to the city center.
